From one HOA committee to a growing network.
Ayaan Shah started a youth-led committee in his own HOA, then watched what happened when young people were actually put in charge. Neighbors met each other. Older residents showed up. That one experiment became the model other communities now use to build their own chapters. It is now listed in the WHO Global Database of Age-friendly Practices, and the broader YouthConnect model was shared at the 2026 World Congress of Age-Friendly Cities and Communities in San Sebastián, Spain.

Chapters ask residents what they need - door to door, by survey, at neighborhood meetings - then turn the answers into projects young people plan, run, and report on. That's where the real experience comes from: working with schools, HOAs, nonprofits, and local government on something people actually asked for.
Generations working side by side
Service projects, check-ins, and shared events put youth and older neighbors in the same room. Older adults see people. Young people pick up mentors, stories, and context they won't get anywhere else.
